Amaranthus - Red Spike

Richly deep burgundy colored flower spikes and deep nearly black foliage. Long, sturdy stems and make excellent cut flowers Amaranthus thrives in the heat of summer and the color remains true. Can be used as a fresh cut or dried for everlasting arrangements. Amaranthus will self-sow if flowers spikes are not cut off before going to seed. The birds LOVE the seeds, and the deer will eat it for the protein once it goes to seed (Note: I used deer deterrent and they stayed away). I planted WAY too many last year, I'd recommend only two-three for personal use.

How to grow: Start indoors under grow lights 4-6 weeks before last frost. Plant 12" apart and hard pinch when 8-10" tall to encourage branching. Will self-sow if flower spikes go to seed.
